What is this newsletter service?
The purpose of a newsletter is to have a list of emails that allows the administrator of the list to send out bulk emails to it's subscription members.  Note that this is not SPAM because it's an opt-in mailing list.  Our mailing list will keep you informed of new articles, changes to the website, and other important information.  You can opt-out of the mailing list at anytime.

How do I subscribe?
From here, click on the "Z-LIST" at the top of this page to return to the home page.  Next, follow the instructions on the page.  You will then receive an email requesting confirmation.  This email will have the subject:
"Request for confirmation of subscription to the mailing list [mailinglistname@zbone.net]"
Where "mailinglistname" will be the name of the mailing list that you are subscribing to.

The purpose of this confirmation email is to make sure that you have entered the correct email address and that your email is working properly.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, there might be a problem with your SPAM blocker.  To confirm your subscription, click on the link provided in your confirmation email.  If you cannot click on it from your email program, copy the entire URL and paste it into your browser.  Make sure to get the entire URL in case it's on multiple lines.  Once you have done so properly, you will get another confirmation email.

How do I unsubscribe?
Return to the main page at lists.zbone.net and highlight "Remove me from the following newsletter," and enter your email address.  You will get a confirmation in your email that you have unsubscribed from the mailing list.

Are you going to send me junk mail?
No. We will use your email address only to send you your newsletters and nothing else.  We will not sell, share or rent your email address to any other individual, business or entity for any reason at any time.  Ever.

I didn't get a confirmation email from you.  What's going on?
You should have gotten a confirmation email within a few minutes.  If you have not gotten this email, it's likely that something is wrong. Either your ISP is blocking our email,  or you have a spam blocker application installed on your computer.  It's also possible that the email that you entered is wrong or has a typo. In some cases, the email that you have provided cannot receive email for one reason or another.

Please first check to make sure you can receive email by sending yourself email from another account or have your friend email you.

Once you've verified that you can receive email normally, then check your spam blocker setting.  You may need to check the "SPAM" or "Junk Mail" folder for our email.  If you find our email there, you will have to tell your spam blocker to unblock our email.

The email address that your confirmation email will be coming from is:
majordomo@ml.kundenserver.de
The actual newsletters will be coming from:
webmaster@zbone.net

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you are able to receive email from both of these addresses above.

Next, if you have a spam blocker installed on your computer, please check the settings to allow email from us.  Some of the programs that can block our newsletters are:

  • Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam 6.0.x
  • Symantec Brightmail 6.0
  • Brightmail 5.5
  • Brightmail 4.0
If your ISP is blocking us, you will have to contact your ISP to change their settings.  It's not likely that they will respond quickly, if at all.  If you are with an ISP that blocks our newsletters, you will have to sign up with a free email service, such as gmail.com.  Here are some common ISPs and what we've found:

Time Warner Roadrunner:
They do not not block either confirmations or the newsletters.  The newsletter is marked as "SPAM" if your spam filter is turned on.

AOL/AIM:
They do not not block the confirmation email.  However, the "Welcome" email is placed in the "Spam" folder. The newsletter is received as a normal email in the inbox.

Google mail (gmail.com):
The confirmation email is placed in the "Spam" folder.  Please look in there for an email with the subject "Request for confirmation of subscription to the mailing list [zmail@zbone.net]".   The newsletter is received as a normal email in the inbox.

Hotmail:
They do not not block the confirmation email.  However, the "Welcome" email is placed in the "Spam" folder. The newsletter is received as a normal email in the inbox.

Yahoo mail:
They do not not block either the confirmation or "Welcome" emails. The newsletter is received as a normal email in the inbox.

As we get more information on other ISPs, we'll add it to this list.  If you've figured out something about your ISP, please email us so we can add the information here.
